The Program

Reactivity Isn’t Disobedience. It’s a State of Mind We Retrain.

A reactive dog isn’t ignoring you — they’re over threshold, flooded with adrenaline, and unable to hear you. That’s why obedience classes and weekly lessons so often fail reactive dogs: one hour a week can’t compete with a nervous system rehearsing the wrong response every day.

Our approach is immersion. Your dog lives at the academy, where trainers in residence rebuild calm from the ground up — engagement work, neutrality around real triggers, and controlled exposure at the exact distance your dog can succeed, tightened day by day.

By the time your dog comes home, calm around other dogs, strangers, and traffic isn’t something they perform for a treat. It’s their new default — and through private handoff lessons, we teach you exactly how to keep it that way. Most families choose our signature Board & Train residency for reactivity because consistency is precisely what reactive dogs need most.

  • Engagement and neutrality foundation with trainers in residence
  • Controlled exposure to real triggers — dogs, people, traffic
  • Structured public outings to proof calm in the real world
  • Private handoff lessons and lifetime trainer support

Reactive Dog Training

Every Form of Reactivity, Retrained

Reactivity wears different faces — and each one needs a different plan. Your dog’s evaluation tells us which one we’re solving.

Leash Reactivity

The most common call we get: a dog who is lovely at home and a handful on leash — lunging and barking at dogs, bikes, or joggers. We rebuild loose-leash composure around live triggers until walks through your own neighborhood feel effortless again.

Dog-to-Dog Reactivity

Whether it’s frustration, fear, or learned habit, dog reactivity rarely improves on its own. Our trainers use stable, professionally handled dogs to teach yours that other dogs are background scenery — not a target and not a threat.

Fear & Stranger Reactivity

Dogs who bark at guests, shrink from strangers, or spook at noises need confidence built, not corrections stacked. We pair structure with careful socialization so your dog learns the world is predictable — and that you’re in charge of it.

Board & Train for Reactive Dogs

Our signature residency is the strongest path for reactivity: total consistency, daily controlled exposure, and trainers living on-site with your dog. The transformation families describe as “a different dog” starts here.

How Your Dog's Residency Works

The Evaluation

Every residency begins with a complimentary evaluation. We assess your dog's temperament, history, and your family's goals — then design a training plan specific to your dog. No two programs here are identical.

The Immersion

Your dog moves into the academy. Training is woven through every part of the day and proofed in real-world settings — with trainers on the property around the clock, not visiting between shifts. You receive regular updates throughout.

The Homecoming

We return your dog to your door, then teach you everything they've learned through private handoff lessons. Refresher sessions and lifetime trainer support keep the results permanent.

Questions

Reactive Dog Training, Answered

What is reactive dog training?
Reactive dog training addresses over-the-top responses — lunging, barking, fixating — toward dogs, people, or movement. Rather than suppressing the outburst, we retrain the emotional response underneath it through structured immersion, so your dog stays calm and connected to you around former triggers.
Is my dog reactive or aggressive?
Reactivity is an overreaction — usually rooted in frustration, fear, or excitement. Aggression involves genuine intent to bite or harm. The two can overlap, and the honest answer comes from an in-person evaluation. We train both, so your dog is in the right hands either way.
Can a reactive dog really change?
Yes — with the right environment. Weekly dog training lessons often stall because the dog rehearses reactivity all week between sessions. Immersion removes that rehearsal entirely and replaces it with hundreds of calm, successful repetitions. It’s why families who’ve already tried another dog trainer come to us.
Why choose Stateline over other reactive dog training near me?
Because reactivity is our daily work, not an add-on. A 5× PSA National Champion trainer with 25+ years of experience, an 11,000 sq ft private facility with trainers in residence, and full-immersion programs that end the daily rehearsal of reactivity — no other program combines all three.
How do we get started?
Book a free evaluation below or call 717-632-1111. We'll meet your dog, discuss your goals, and design their program. Our trainers work with a small number of dogs at a time, so we recommend scheduling your evaluation early.
